This is not a continuous story told throughout the book. It is a compilation of different stories and works of writing. I traditionally don't care for these types of books, but this one is pretty good. I like the way the chapters are organized and the book flows well. I'm learning quite a bit about things I never thought about; having to do with Russia and why the people are the way they are as far as culture and traditions. I read a couple chapters a day and enjoy the fact I can put it down and pick up and not have to remember where I was previously.

This is a fascinating book with excellent sources. If you are interested in Russian history I highly recommend this book.

i can't believe it's taken this long for somebody to put out something like this. as someone who has been involved with the IB for over 20 years, this is exactly the kind of resource that has been missing for clueless students all over the world. each chapter is helpful, and the advice is more or less fool-proof. I really think every single IB student should read this book three times. Once before the IB, once during summer of 1st year, and then a final read right before exams.my only two complaints are i) i think the one chapter on CAS is either outdated or specific to some schools and ii) the book may be seen as 'overpriced' by some (although you pay 80+ usd for an IB bio textbook and this is wayyy more beneficial to your overall score).

Bought this after seeing IB kids talking about it on Instagram. It’s actually a really great help-book to anyone struggling in the program. The authors original chapters are great, and the submitted chapters vary in helpfulness but overall there is a bunch of tips that I never would have thought of.If you are already predicted 42+ points, chances are you know what you are doing, and reading this book, although quick, will do little to improve your score. However, if you are struggling to get a pass mark, or are an average student, the advice will definitely get you 6 or more extra points, whether the bonus ones, or in individual subjects (especially core ones).I strongly believe the IB is a superior curriculum to other alternatives, and will be the benchmark in the near future. However, not all schools have amazing teachers who specifically know the ins and outs of the program and how to succeed in it. This book solves these problems!Only complaint is that delivery took longer than promised, hopefully Amazon stocks a few copies when it sees demand growing. Also, a cheaper electronic version would be a great addition.

As an IB teacher, it is great to have this sort of concise and accurate handbook (without all of the unnecessary obfuscating IB language) to guide students with very practical advice. This guidebook removes much of the intimidation inherent in the IB programme and gives students increased confidence by getting right to the main points and by speaking to students in their own language.

Great book for any and all IB students! Lots of insight and many tips that are invaluable.

My kids and I had originally read this at the library and I loved it so much it was one of the rare books actually bought for House Library.it was one of the best kids books I have read on forgiveness. & I think it could teach adults I know to about the importance of forgiveness. I would highly recommend it.

As you would expect from the author, this book is a peaceful, teaching story. It is a great lesson against bullying, both in how to handle the situation if you are the one being bullied and how to consider what might have caused the bully to act the way he does. I highly recommend it; very timely.

Powerful message about forgiveness and how to be in relationship with others! Beautiful illustrations! I have bought multiple copies for family and friends ages newborn to elementary school age.

There are so may ways most of us can identify with in Rosie's journey - drinking with men is simply a metaphor for how women find their place in the universe. I love that she uses the bar culture as a common equalizer of the sexes. It's not the pick-up bar or the sports bar she frequents, but the neighborhood bar where you have to humble yourself to your core and set your soul vulnerable. Believe me, the book is not this esoteric. Rosie leads us to the place better than group therapy, a place - when stumbled upon - can keep us sane.

I just loved this book. Rosie Schaap can really write, and her memoir constructed around her social (and inner) life in bars and saloons proves it. This was a book club selection for my book club--which meets at a local bar!--and there was a long and interesting discussion following our reading of "Drinking With Men."One question I was interested in hearing everyone answer was, is Rosie Schaap an alcoholic? We all had our own opinions. The answers ranged from "Um...yes, obviously!" to "Not at all, I really don't think so at all!" and everything in between. To a person, though, we all enjoyed her memoir and identified with her strong love of walking into a place, wherever it may be, "where everybody knows your name."Recommendation: Two hearty thumbs up, absolutely recommend.

Thought this would be a good book after hearing about it. Not what I expected. The author does a good job of relating many stories about different bars, and the various characters she meets in them. But all they do is talk, talk, talk. Although the author spends hundreds of hours in the various bars, she seldom ends up inebriated. For all that, she might as well as spent time in a Starbucks. Not my kind of bar stories for sure.

Rosie Schaap has written a very honest, insightful, accurate, readable, and interesting memoir - and she's just in her early forties. Three cheers and five stars, and boy does it make me yearn for the "good old days," when I was young. Ms. Schaap opens with the statement that she has probably spent 13,000 hours in bars. Well, my number is 50,000.See, I used to tend bar, in my 20s, 30s, and 40s; and I can say with certainty that she tells it as it was, and probably still is, but to a lesser degree; as it seems coffee shops and tea houses have replaced the "neighborhood bar" as informal community gathering places; and also people, in general, seem less inclined to talk with each other face-to-face with loosened minds and tongues, with friends, co-workers, and neighbors --preferring to chat or text or blog online on their electronic devices (laptops, tablets, & smartphones) with anonymity (often), leveled out by prescribed pharmaceutical drugs-- with strangers-- in safety without risk of being exposed or caught for who they truly are. Which is, of course, ironic because one of the "rules" Rosie accurately writes about is that it was protocol, in the bar, for conversation to remain "superficial." But the difference is that most real (meaning unscripted and unmeasured without an agenda) communication is non-verbal. Ninety-three percent of communication is tonal and gesture, as well as unseen vibration. It's true. And that is disappearing with the rise of electronic communication, concurrent with the decline in social drinking, and the neighborhood bar. I find that sad.Many reviewers of this book declare that they think Rosie is an alcoholic. She doesn't, as she described it, meet my definition. Yes, on occasion she would drink to excess and make herself sick; but she'd never drive, become delusional, hostile, aggressive, or threatening, or miss work or other obligations. If she's an alcoholic, she's a functional one so ... So what. She's wrote a heck-of-a book, and seems to have found a place where she's happy and comfortable. Cheers.One last mention. Rosie Schaap is the daughter of Dick Schaap, a famous sports reporter and writer, back-in-the-day. He was hard working, tenacious, and very good at what he did, but not hard-drinking as the stereotype would suggest. He was also, as the stereotype does suggest, not much involved with "parenting." He was always working, and Rosie's mother and father divorced when Rosie was a young child. Rosie was sent to a "shrink" regularly. Why she doesn't reveal. So Rosie knows things a lot of kids don't, and one thing she knows is about the Freudian defense mechanism sublimation - the distraction from sexual desire by altruistic behavior, often creative. As a young student, she suspects this being behind the poet Yeats' work; and looks at sublimation introspectively. She "loved" hanging out with older, smart, creative men, drinking in bars with them, without a sexual component - she was "one of the guys."This is a very, very, very good memoir.

I really can't make up my mind on this book. The first few chapters had so much potential. At first each chapter was so different that they seemed like a compilation of short stories about her life. The last few chapters have enough details to make a continuous story, but for some reason there doesn't really seem to be enough details to weave a continuous tale. I guess I'm not sure why I didn't love the book. All I can say is that I read the first few chapters with alarming speed and the last few I found difficult to complete.

I really loved the description of Rosie's book when I first saw it, but I feel that it didn't live up to my expectations. Some points she was trying to make just seemed to fall flat, certain sections dragged on forever, and the ending did not leave me very satisfied. It was a nice idea and I did like many of the stories she had to tell from the bar, but I think maybe I expected too much of it due to its 'differentness'.

Very disappointed. If you know anything about SharePoint already please don't bother getting this book. First off the image/print quality of all the screen captures in the book are so horrible you can't make out anything - they might has well left them out all together. 80% of this book just goes through the basics of how to create a based site and work with very basic features which nearly all people will learn on their own by just playing with it.

This book can be read and implemented in a intense weekend. By Monday everyone will be amazed at your expertise.I had to google some of the stuff in this book, because I am using sharepoint 365, and some commands are in a different place. Nothing very complicated.I would give this book 6 starts. Great job.Only recommendation to the author is to update it to the latest sharepoint edition.

I hoped to learn something new, but this book basically describes SharePoint features (templates) that can be used for some aspects of Project Management. You can learn the same by playing with SharePoint for a few days and reading some free online tutorials. There were a few nominal tips but nothing extraordinary that wouldn't have been learned with a little experience.

Pretty cool deal

This is the second book i have read by Dux. This book very much aligns with his previous book. I wish he would write another that was a little more technical, ie customized work flows, but i get it this is a good users guide for working with share point.

Simplicity at it's best. Many projects do not require overly complex methodologies or software to run them. At the end of the day, communication and collaboration counts for more than any thing else. Which is what Dux and his book bring to the table in clear and very concise ways utilizing a platform that is easy to use and is already available within most organizations. And if not available, there is always Office 365.

Ii consider myself a super user of Sharepoint. This book helped in some areas but I was still finding myself Googling questions after certain sections.

I enjoyed this book quite a lot I read thru it in about 2 days, I have a lot of experience with SharePoint so I skipped performing the actual practice scenarios and I can say this book definitely drove the message home. If you are either new or intermediate PM this book is a worthwhile read and if you are knowledgeable on SharePoint and want to know how to apply it toward your projects its a great start.My only observations is that the section of dashboards could probably be more in-depth and include more screen captures, aside from that the context of the book is straight forward and you can grow the knowledge from this book easily and adjust SharePoint to your needs.

It is complicated, I'm not going to lie, but once you get into it it's worth it. It makes you see the sacrifices that immigrants have to make when they leave their country. It doesn't apply only to Chinese people, it is for immigrants from all around the world.

This collection of Chinese folklore is also a complex soul-searching journey for the author in which she delves into the folklore of her Chinese heritage that has been imparted to her over the years mainly by her mother and assesses how these tales relate to her own inner self in the way that she has been raised by her parents and also in the way that she has grown both within and apart from these cultural boundaries.The stories themselves are fairly interesting and entertaining, but what really makes this book noteworthy is the introspection of the author as a Chines-American woman growing up within two separate cultures in the 1970's and the inner strength and courage that she develops throughout this growing-up process.While it was a bit outside of my comfort zone at times, I really appreciated this book for the honesty and sincerity of the author and the courage that it took to put all of her internal feelings and thoughts out into the ope for all to see.

This story carries you along so effortlessly, like listening to a favorite song, yet one that leaves you in a state of enchantment and with an ache for a society, a perspective that you don't know, and can't help to heal. It really portrays the ache of being split between cultures well.

I loved the description of the culture and the gorgeous language. It was a true escape from the everyday world, but with highly artistic, skilled writing. No cheap thrills. Kingston's writing is enthralling.

I am delighted that a friend suggested that I read Kingston's book, as I'd not read it in college as had so many of my friends. It is a powerful, sobering, wonderful compilation of very powerful stories. I can imagine that this book made a dramatic impact on women and society when it was first published, as it has a lasting effect even now, several decades later. The stories of growing up in a very different time and culture, told with Kingston's strong, burning passion to bring life to these tales, ensures that they are beautifully and powerfully alive the page. The book is timeless.

I stepped out of my normal reading patterns with this book and was surprised by how much I actually enjoyed it. Kingston paints very vivid images with her words and brings them to life off the page. I was not a fan of the fourth story, "At the Western Palace", but all the others were great. "White Tigers" was my favorite to read in this book.

This book came in a timely manor and was a great read. The stories can be read separately and each carry their own meaning, but are still cohesive and all relate back to the main character. A great read.

This was required reading in my literature class. I had difficulty finishing the book. It just did not keep my interest. Good literature engages the reader, regardless of that reader’s interests. For example, Frank McCourt’s Angela’s Ashes was enjoyed by readers that were not of Irish ancestry and previously had no real interest in anything Irish. Arthur Golden’s Memoirs of a Geisha interested people who usually wouldn’t have been drawn to anything that had to do with Japan, or Japanese culture. Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is almost two-hundred years old and the themes are still relevant today and it allows the reader to further appreciate the cultural, popular mentality of the time, in England and Western Europe.I was hoping that this book would do the same for Chinese Americans and Chinese culture. It did not. There are certain parts of the book that are very well written, but the imagery often goes a bit over the top and is frequently too heavy-handed. Imagery & symbolism should be somewhat subtle. There is also a bit of repetition of some of the themes, which is usually ok, if a motif is running throughout a book, but only if it is done with considerable intelligence and creativity. The repetitious motifs in this book often seem irritating and even inane.Some parts are very well written, but those parts make up a small portion of the book: still, enough for me to give the book two stars.Just wasn’t my cup of tea.

Firstly I don't think being half Drupal 7 and half Drupal 8 works very well. Most people want to do one or the other, and it's a pretty thin book already, so knowing half of that isn't useful isn't great.Secondly I don't think it goes deeply into topics. I was interested in how to create a multilingual site. It mentions using the t function, OK that's Drupal 101, but it doesn't explain how you then make that result into a mutli-lingual site. Where do I put the translations, how does it work etc?So yeh it's OK, there's stuff to learn in there, but it is not very deep on anything. You get a single example for most things, and there's no actual problem solving shown. It's just lots of "brief intro to".

I found this book really useful. It lays out the unique Drupal concepts in a clear and concise manner, and in a way that you can easily jump around to find what you need (as opposed to a tutorial-style book where you'd need to work through it more linearly). The format is unique and well-structured, and particularly helpful in navigating what's what in Drupal. I was experienced with D7 but not D8 when I read this, and it helped a lot. It discusses many things separately for D7 and D8, so it's easy to know what version the text applies to.

I learned more about Drupal 8 from a couple of hours with this book than a month wading through the Drupal.org website. As a backend developer new to Drupal, the book was just what I needed to get me moving forward with Drupal. Clearly written and easy to understand, this will be my first stop for reference as I learn more about Drupal.Perhaps the biggest takeaway I got from the book is to NOT write code if possible, but to rely more on what Drupal and its extensions can do for me. Instead of trying to build my own data-entry modules, I am now moving forward building my first real-world Drupal website using what's already available rather than getting slowed down by my desire to build it all myself. A hard lesson for a coder to learn! And when I do open my trusty PHP editor again (soon), I'll be using this book to point me in the right direction rather than having to rely on Druapl's website.Thanks, Jennifer.
