Very authentic. If your serious about discovering regional Spanish cuisine this is an excellent choice. A great read even if you don't cool.

There's a scene in the DVD, Spain: A Culinary Road Trip, where Gwyneth Paltrow is introducing Mario Batali to one of Spain's foremost chefs, introducing the Spanish chef to Batali as "a great Spanish chef" and Batali to the Spanish chef as "an Italian chef" whereupon Batali quickly corrects Paltrow in a slowed, perturbed cadenced, "a great Italian chef" -- causing Paltrow to first pause and then repeat semi-perfunctorily, "a great Italian chef" as Batali blushes in either anger, embarrassment, or a hot Spanish sun. Well, unquestionably, the chefs in this collection of superb recipes are "great Spanish chefs" from distinct regions of Spain. As much as I lauded From the Source: Thailand, I must say that this Spanish book was equally impressive. There is literally a color photo of FOOD on every page (not people smiling with missing teeth sans food in the pictures) and many of the dishes are either new to me (and I own many wonderful Spanish-cuisine cookbooks) or were done in a novel or superb way. Again, the lists of dishes are too plentiful and magnificent to list any favorites. They are phenomenal, and I invite each of you to doubt my words and run to a bookstore and browse through this book. Your local library is a great place to start. I guarantee you will buy this tremendous collection of Spanish recipes created by real Spanish chefs from Espana. And again, my comments in my review on From the Source: Thailand (about American born chefs descended from and cooking the cuisine of their ancestors, and Americans who can masterfully cook the cuisine of a foreign country despite not belonging to the country whose cuisine they specialize in) still holds true here. But why risk your dollars buying cookbooks from authors who just might not be Italian or Spanish or Japanese or Thai or whatever-enough? I can now say without any hesitation that this From the Source series is everything I had been hoping for in ethnic cuisine books: books featuring the recipes of many great native-country master chefs (not just one or a few chefs) with dozens of great recipes with one or two photos for each recipe (all in color) in the book! And the recipes are the real thing: not water-downed, over-simplified Americanized clones. Enjoy the wonderful dishes in this series. I wish I owned stock in the company. I found this book to be a good aid for a first-time-hiker in RMNP last summer. It had been years since I was in the park, and the maps and descriptions in the book were quite useful for the type of day hikes I was doing. It was a basic guide, probably not as helpful as some for serious multi-day hiker/campers, but it worked well for me. The RMNP literature available in Estes Park and from NPS staff at the gates was good, but only went so far. I would recommend this publication to anyone wanting to get a pretty basic overview of the major trails and sights along the way.

There are other guidebooks to hiking in the park, but this is the only one currently in print with hikes in the Indian Peaks wilderness as well. If you have not hiked from the Brainard Lake trailheads or the 4th of July trailhead, you are missing some of the best back country, and best wildflowers, on the front range. Good trail descriptions, adequate maps, good index with distances and elevations.

Compared to the other books in the series this is a disaster. No trail lengths other than an a difficult and awkward table in the back that lists distances between points of interest rather than the trails themselves. No elevation profiles either. The book seems like it was meant to be read in its entirety before planning a trip within the park. The text forces you to read through stories about each trail in order to find bits of information about where the trail begins and ends, how long it is, and other connecting trails. There are a lot of interesting points mentioned regarding the experience along each trail but If I can't use the book to know where I am going it is of no use for trip planning. I have used many other books in this series as guides to trip planning; however, after a couple of hours trying to figure out where or how far I would be going on a single backpacking route I gave up and just switched back to using the Nat Geo topo maps.

A great book for those relatively unfamiliar with Rocky Mountain National Park. While I wish there had been a few more maps through it, I was ableTo supplement the lack of maps with maps from the park once we arrived.

this book is organized more like a long-winded email from a traveling buddy than a hiking guide sold at real stores for real money. I'm all for the anecdotal side of the outdoors, but if I wanted that I would pick up a John Muir journal, not a Falcon guide. The complete lack of structure makes this guide effectively worthless for anyone planning a trip.

This is the least helpful trail guide I have ever purchased. There are no elevations, no distances, no hiking times, no anything that will help you plan a hike. Instead, the author pontificates on why the trail is or is not glorious and offers dubious photography pointers (meter off the sky to get the silhouette of a tree... etc, etc). Don't waste your money on this book if you are trying to figure out things like what time to hit the trail head to arrive at your destination by sunrise, what elevation change you might encounter, how long the hike might take, or just generally if you have better things to do than to try to decipher some guy rambling on about stuff guys ramble on about. I'm sure the author meant well, but this book is extremely frustrating to use while I try to explore the park.

I'm glad I persisted, though. None of the chapters failed to stimulate or increase understanding.Because the book deals with so many different industries, I would recommend this for just about everyone—you can take the topic of beneficial versus harmful human social arrangements and abstract it across pretty much everything that brings humans together. And though the book is fairly light on solutions, I think it solidly adds to the literature supporting greater, more optimistic cooperation among humans. Nor is the fact that the book is light on solutions a terrible mark against it, as I think that the new direction it supports has not quite yet been witnessed on earth, and we have only our imaginations to guide us to the best, and then better, and then better, ad infinitum, structures and arrangements. Improvement is a process, and this book helps redirect at the margins to better processes.Enjoy!

All to quickly much of society is moving toward a belief that in order fo an individual to get ahead someone else has to lose - the zero sum game.She pretty well slams the counterproductive effects of competition on : education sports academia research financial services software music movies drug discovery subprime debt and moreWhat makes her arguments so compelling is that we have all seen exactly what she is pointing out and that if we allow this win at all cost approach to continue we will all be worse off. Not so say reading this will cause you to become a card carrying Occupy Wallstreet member, but unfettered capitalism /competition (in order for me to get ahead, you have to lose) is taking us down the wrong road. What hit me the hardest is my current research on human development and innovation is pointing to similar conclusions as this author. If you are any kind of leader, coach, educator this is one book you must read.

I found Margaret Heffernan's book eye-opening and thought-provoking. Just one or two examples of how the misuse of competition as a deciding factor is damaging the quality of human life would not have been enough. By the time I reached the end, I understood the belief in competition more completely in all the guises it takes. I appreciate the concession late in the book that competition has a role. But collaboration comes even over competition. And collaboration can be hard, even for collaborators! Heffernan clearly understood how deeply the competitive mental model sits within our psyches and cultures and pursued its unveiling with a thoroughness and curiosity that serves the reader very well. I rarely write reviews; it is a testament to how good and how moving this book is that I was motivated to write something and encourage people not only to read it but to open their minds to it. Competition will not work to move humans through our current state. We don't need to debate whether it "worked" before or will "work" again at some point in a future we cannot foresee. Heffernan's research tells us that, right now, what we need is to collaborate.

A real eye opener. It really made me rethink my views on competition. This has made me readjust my beliefs on things like economy, education and human relationships in general. Margaret goes both wide and deep in her critic on this attitude that many people hold; that competition is a good thing in itself. I can't really thank her enough for the insight she has shared with me.

This is a fine book for middle school kids. The writing is concise and the illustration good. The story is meaningful and easy to read. It tells a story that all Americans should know and be proud of regardless of the level it might be written on. Put this one in your library. After you have read it, your kids will find their way to it. Let's stand up for America and be proud of our heritage and the men and women who made our freedom possible. I read it to my 3rd graders every year around April 19. The kids really react to the story positively. This is my American Revolution Night Before Christmas story. It should be read every year in April. Renews our commitment to freedom and the price paid by our patriots.

I know this is a book about the battle of Lexington and Concord. That said, the “dying” part was a little intense for a child. There is a page where a father gets shot and dies on the doorstep in front of his wife and young son. And it was illustrated - with the Dad dying and the wife and son looking on. I worried that it would make my children afraid that their own parents could die. I think this is an excellent book, but beware war is scary. This makes it feel a little too real!

My boys, 6 and 4 really liked it. They are curious about wars. They had me read this book twice in a row. I learned a lot myself. Very interesting and enjoyable. I recommend it to you young historians out there.

My Revolutionary war obsessed 5 year old loved to hear the story, recognized the famous quotes and spent a lot of time pouring over the realistic pictures! A great buy!

This is a wonderfully told story of an important historical event. I have read it to 4th graders to begin the study of the American Revolution, and I've had them break into applause during the story just as if they'd been watching a movie at a theater. It gives this event a personal touch as the story tells of the everyday men who stood up to, at that time, the strongest army in the world.It is perfect to share with ELL students who may not have the background knowledge to understand this period in history. The illustrations highly support, and enhance, the text. I highly recommend it for anyone who teaches history.

My son's comments - This book was great because it looks at each sides point of view between the battle of Lexington and Concord. The pictures were great too. This is why I highly recommend this book to you.

We bought this for our grandchildren after our trip to Lexington & Concord. They really enjoyed learning the history and now look forward to someday going to Lexington & Concord too.
