#84,533 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

This was my first read by this author and it won’t be my last.PNR and RH?? Yes please! In the beginning you get introduced to many characters, you become enthralled in a whole new world. You are kept wondering who you can trust, and who you can’t.In this first book, nothing is as it seems. What you think you knew will be flipped upside down. You will see character growth from beginning to end.I cannot wait to see how Nichole Austin continues to develop all these characters and storylines.

Author Nicole Austin has created this whole world I hapily explored, our heroine is only 17 so she can be a bit bratty however it goes to be with her age. This is a RH with witches, wolves and vampires and despite the assortment of characters this author made it easy to navigate between them, as a reader who enjoys this particular genre, I been dispointed in the past as characters become merged, so here i am recommending this book to anyone who wants to get lost in an adventure.

This is the first book I read by this author, but let me tell you it won’t me my last. The books starts with the main character Rosalyn she’s a young naive 17yr old witch who is not aware of her powers she has and how to control them. In the story you meet a lot of other characters and find out . Who everyone is and what role they play in this book some of the characters I’m not a fan of, others I love so much.Gah the book ends in a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to find out more of this story. They’re were parts where I would get annoyed with the main character but it’s normal because she’s still learning who she is and her finding her role in the pnr land.

This brand new author has found her own unique voice!I'm pretty sure if you're checking out this book you're eitherA. Already a paranormal romance reader orB. Already a reverse harem readerI know I've read both genres, this book combines them and that's not something you see a lot of.This is her first piece of work and she knocks it out of the park!Rosalyn is a seventeen year old princess (typical teenage brat)… she's also a witch coming into her powers. When certain circumstances come to light, her world shifts and the people closet to her reveal secrets that have been buried. Foes turn to friends and strangers to new love interests. This book has everything you could want.. witches, shifters, vampires and mortals. Crazy intense fight scenes and a slow burn that sets fire to the pages!I need book two like I need oxygen! Give it to me now! Yep I'm throwing a Rosalyn tantrum. That ending will blow your mind!Don't miss the stunning beginning to this author's journey!

I’m not sure how I feel about this book. I thought the paranormal aspects of the book was interesting but I got a lot of whiplash with the characters. I really didn’t care much for Rosalyn. I found her to be immature and whiney. I was confused on the love/hate that was going on with all the characters. One minute one of them is in love with her, the next he hates her, then another guy is in love with her but is kissing/marrying someone else and now she has 4 mates? She inturns is connected to another guy, loved another guy and then somehow ends up married to another guy? Totally confused and nothing really made any sense.

DecadenceWitches, werewolves, and vampires oh my!!I’m pretty sure there are not enough words to describe this. This book....... I devoured, became obsessive and NEEDED this book from page one. It captivates your entire being and sucks you in. Plan on reading it in one sitting. You won’t be able to stop. The twists and turns of this book are frustratingly beautiful. I fell in love with Rosalyn’s character and all the struggles and problems she faces. She has so many things going against her you feel so much for her and what she goes through. Her struggles are so much more than the average girl. The men - blew my mind. They are strong, manipulative, mind blowing (literally!), and all around hot, alpha men. They protect, help and inspire her to do and be the best no netter what is happening. This book will leave you with a book hangover for the year. I. Need. More. Now!!! Seriously, go buy this book! You’ll feel the same way I do!!

Wow! Nichole Austin has come out swinging with her debut novel! This book has a very unique, strong storyline that I loved reading. Her characters are interesting and I found myself wanting to know more about each of them and what makes them tick. I don't read a lot of PNR and I found myself loving the quick action of this book. I was left with so many questions and I can't wait for the next books and hopefully will get the answers that are driving me crazy!

My interest was piqued when I read the blurb but after the first chapter, I felt like I was missing paragraphs in each chapter. There was no cohesiveness in the storyline. There was barely a description of the world the book was set in. And the character development was inconsistent. The premise of the story was a good one but the execution of it needed more work.I received this book as an ARC and I voluntarily left an honest review.

I was very disappointed by this Haggadah. It advertises that the book features Ladino as well as English and Hebrew. This is very misleading: only 2-3 pages at the end of the book have any Ladino.I specifically bought this Haggadah so I could learn the prayers in Ladino. This Haggadah cannot be used for that at all.

Just the right size and includes various popular Sephardi customs as well as the WHY also there is some Ladino text. We plan to used it this year at second Seder.

Excellent Sephardi Seder sefarim! Basic Seder for Pesach! Lots of great Sephardi commentary, and simple straight-forward format...

I was very excited about hosting my first Seder. Very easy to follow and a lot of interesting facts. My seder was better than excellent.

This is an easy readable Haggadah in Hebrew and English, The book also contains Ladino, after meal blessings and useful terms' definition, or explanations.

its may be a swell haggada but $70?? REALLY???

#16,524 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

To be honest, I'm not really sure how to review this book. When I first saw it on a "coming soon" list, I greeted it with an equal mix of interest and disdain. I wasn't interested in liking the author. I wasn't interested in liking the book. However, the description kept pulling me in. I'd like to be clear on my comments about the author. I have read none of Mrs Hatmaker's other books, and, in fact, until this book had never even heard of her. But upon doing some research her life seemed to be the polar opposite of my own. Neat where mine was messy. Stable where mine was not. What could this woman possibly offer me in the way of sympathy, understanding, or advice? However, with that being said, I just couldn't let go of the book's description. I didn't want to like the author, or the book, but I really, REALLY wanted to read it.And now with the book finished, I'm just so intensely glad I did. I'm so glad I took a chance. No, her life is absolutely nothing like mine, but every chapter ... every last one ... was filled with humor, honesty, and realism. Every chapter pulled me out of my world, and away from my pain, and they all made me think that everything is going to be ok. Life is messy for everyone, but it won't be that way forever. Reality hurts, but it can be faced and overcome. Nobody is perfect, and that's not only normal, but just fine.As I read I felt less lonely. More loved. More understood. Based off a review I read on one of Mrs Hatmaker's previous books, I was skeptical that she'd be able to connect with me at all, but she did. The book is filled with uplifting humor, candid honesty, and messages about God and love. I'd recommend it to any woman, literally ANY one, in need of support, laughter, and sisterhood. And, though I have never included lines from books before in reviews, I just can't help it here. Mrs Hatmaker's "How To" chapters were my absolute favorites, and this is an excerpt from her instructions on "How to Get Uninvited Back to a Home Decor Store"3) Hear gasp from a bystander, and look up to see your son's bare behind and a hearty stream of urine trailing from the cart into a $48 decorative basket. You don't understand why he had to drop his underpants to his ankles, but in addition to soiling the home goods, he has now displayed his bits and bobbles for all to witness.4) Panic as you realize step 1.5) Watch the tee-tee run down the shelving unit and soak the towels below before pooling in a delightful puddle at the end of isle 7.6) Calculate your expenditures to around ninety-five dollars of urine-soaked home items that now belong to you.7) Congratulations. You can now show back up to this store in five years.Take a chance on this book. It warmed my heart, and lifted my soul, and I think it can do the same for others.

Sigh. OK. I debated about whether to spend any energy on this review. However, I figure that there are probably those among us who feel similarly about this book from our beloved Jen Hatmaker and I’d love to sidle up next to them and help them feel less alone, so this is for those who felt alienated by this book.First, a little about me to give this review some context: I’m squarely of the Jen Hatmaker tribe. I’m a Married Mom - progressive Christian married to another Christian who was into Gospel-motivated social justice way long before _Interrupted_ (because: Jesus). I loved Jen from “go”. I have zero qualms about Jen’s “theology” though I do love to read the pearl clutching reviews from Those With the Qualms, and when you quote Scripture in KING JAMES in your review? Well, I just about fall over. Thanks for giving me life.Anyway, I never pre-order books, but I preordered _For the Love_ when it first came out, (because: Jen). I subscribe to Jen’s church’s sermon podcast and I mostly love it, especially when she preaches. I’ve listened to many of her For the Love podcasts. I follow Jen on Instagram and Twitter. Jen’s Facebook page is one of my “See Firsts” in my feed. You get the idea. I’m down with my girl Jen.But this book, yall? Sigh. Not so much. I still got love for Jen, but I think this is my last Jen book for a long minute. Two specific issues with this book: 1) It was too random to be truly worth my time (I know. I’m not trying to be mean, just honest, and I can’t find a better way to say it) and 2) It left me hurting. I’m still struggling with this, and I’m not entirely sure why or that it’s Jen’s fault or anything, but I’ll share in case someone else feels the same.Unpacking those two things:#1) I felt like the chapters were so disjointed as to offer little beyond what I can get from Jen by just reading her Facebook posts. The book was not a sustained meditation such that it really warranted a book. I love Jen’s Facebook posts, but I don’t need to spend my money or hours of my time reading them. Instead of buying her next book, I think I’ll stick with Facebook and her blog.#2) I’m so struggling with this. Perhaps I just don’t understand. What was the goal of the book? I suppose that it’s supposed to be kind of like hanging out on your big sister or your girlfriend’s porch listening to her muse about her life so that you could connect, laugh, relate, and be shored up and encouraged? The book starts off with a gorgeous Introduction about setting the table for ALL women. But goodness did it fall short, IMO. The entire book assumes a shared narrative of The Married Christian Mom. Even though I am the (millennial) Married Christian Mom, totally of the Tribe, this whole book felt like a dinner party that I could (sort-of) attend but to which I couldn’t invite my single, never-married, divorced or childless friends. Honestly, I’m of the perspective that you can’t be all things to all people - at least not all of the time and maybe not all in one book, but to set such a beautiful, inclusive vision (as the Intro did) then to fail (so badly) to really achieve that vision was just so disappointing. People do not attend dinner parties or read books to simply observe your life, to admire you. They do so to connect, to belong. This book honestly felt like an invitation to come, sit and Jen’s table (or on her porch) and just observe her life and agree about how great it is, and by extension how great she is, how favored among women.I loved the more universal parts of the book about forgiveness and vision-casting for church and what a wide table we can set in love and how to love our people who are suffering, but at the conclusion of the book, it was difficult to not feel like all of those good things were rooted more in how well-loved Jen has been her whole life, by her parents, her husband, her friends; indeed it seemed those good things were less rooted in the transforming power and impossible grace of Jesus. For many of my friends and I, the chasm between our experiences and Jen's are vast and painful. What then is the Hope for those of us who want to build beautiful, connected lives that are shot through with love like Jen's? It's Jesus, yes? As such, it would have helped me if the book talked about Jesus more, and Jen less.At the conclusion of the book, she writes, “Sure, these are some of my stories, but really, they are all our stories” Except...not really. And she gets that these stories aren’t shared by many (so many) of us as she continues in the same paragraph, “Some of you didn’t have healthy parents, and the love note to mine was painful to read”. Ok, so she gets it. But it still begs the question: “Why?” Truly, how many people in your life have the kind of family, marriage, and friend group that Jen does? Or even close? So if you know that, and you know that witnessing your published PDA to your family is straight up painful, then why publish this? Why not just type it out in an email or print it out and share it with your family? I mean this honestly: what was the point? Was it meant to inspire? It kind of did. Was it meant to be a how-to achieve this same sort of family bliss? If you read between the lines, there’s certainly some of that there. But goodness, it just struck me as an opportunity to trot out all that is great about your life. Sigh.If I dig deep, I’m able to be genuinely happy for Jen that she’s been so well-loved. I can even begin to grapple with the painful fact that God has, somehow, for some reason(s) allowed many of my friends and I to not have that same kind of love, that firm foundation of friends, family, Bonus-Moms and such. I can even be inspired by the fact that such a kind of life exists, even if it’s not mine. I long and plan and pray and pursue these things for my kids. But I’m still left with the question: what was the point? Honestly, what was the goal of this book? It mostly just hurt, and even the good parts weren’t much beyond what I could get from Jen’s Facebook page.Lastly, a note for those of us who have not been as well-loved as Jen Hatmaker: Perhaps this means that there is a hole in this space that we need to rise up and fill. Those of us who have been so neglected and abused that it’s a (straight up) miracle that we’re still here, that we have the tiniest bit of faith in the love of Jesus, despite not having tasted it in friends and family like Jen has - perhaps it’s time for us to start writing our stories to set a wider table than that which was set in _Of Mess and Moxie_? I think so. Let’s rise and do it.

While I liked Jen's last book, I just LOVED Of Mess and Moxie. I received an advance copy, and I nearly cried in the first chapter because of a few sentences that so perfectly captured my own feelings. I love her words about creating community, her in-the-trenches chapter about parenting (even though I'm not a mom), the chapter about pushing yourself to create and do, and her moments of humor that let us know she gets us. Maybe the strongest chapter is where she vehemently prods us to love like Jesus, full-stop. It feels simultaneously like an anthem and a hymn.Sometimes a book makes you feel more at home in who you are and whose you are. For me, this is that book- the one that inspires me to embrace who God made me to be, and shares how to use my life to honor Him and love others, even when I don't have it all together. While this book made me think and made me laugh, the best thing about it is the way this book fights to include us all. In a time when I've felt distant from the church, this book made me feel like I belong. Of Mess and Moxie is a powerful reminder that God's grace isn't waiting on your perfection.

Review

"Davidson's journalistic eye captures the legacy of squalor and misery that greed and irresponsibility have created along the borderlands. There is nothing new in this, but the stories Davidson tells form a textbook on just how closely woven even and good, banality and heroism can be. . . . Ambos Nogales has something to teach all of us, and Davidson shares these lessons well." —National Catholic Reporter "She offers hope for progress in the troubled region with her detailed reports on charitable church projects and progressive corporate policies that are helping to alleviate suffering and reduce antagonism. Timely and compelling." —Booklist "Her book examines the impact of the maquiladoras on two towns on either side of the border . . . and condemns industry and the Mexican government for forgetting workers in the pursuit of profits. . . . But in the end, the stories that stand out the most are her vivid portraits of those who have been left behind by economic progress." —New York Times Book Review "This book by American journalist Davidson is a vivid portrait of what is happening in the twin border towns of Nogales in Arizona and Sonora, Mexico-the US's Berlin Wall. . . . This gripping book should be read by all ages and belongs in all libraries." —Choice "A rare glimpse into the personal stories of life and death on the razor's edge in a contrary bordertown. . . . Her impassioned writing and acute investigative talents reveal the human faces often lost to the attention focused on increasing political rhetoric and now-commonplace headlines of tragedy." —Bloomsbury Review

From the Inside Flap

Straddling an international border, the twin cities of Nogales, Arizona, and Nogales, Sonora, are in many ways one community. For years the border was less distinct, with Mexicans crossing one way to visit family and friends and tourists crossing the other to roam the curio shops. But as times change, so do places like Nogales. The maquiladora industry has brought jobs, population growth, and environmental degradation to the Mexican side. A crackdown against undocumented immigrants has brought hundreds of Border Patrol agents and a 14-foot-tall steel wall to the U.S. side. Drug smuggling has brought violence to both sides. Neither Nogales will ever be the same. In "Lives on the Line," Miriam Davidson tells five true stories from these border cities to show the real-life effects that the maquiladora boom and the law enforcement crackdown have had on the people of "Ambos (Both) Nogales." Readers will meet Yolanda SAnchez, a single mother who came to work in the factories; Jimmy Teyechea, a cancer victim who became an outspoken environmental activist; Dario Miranda Valenzuela, an undocumented immigrant who was shot and killed by a U.S. Border Patrol agent; Cristina, a "tunnel kid" who aspired to flee the gang lifestyle; and Hope Torres and Tom Higgins, maquiladora managers who have made unique contributions to the community. In sharing these stories of people transformed by love and faith, by pain and loss, Davidson relates their experiences to larger issues and shows that, although life on the border is tough, it is not without hope. "Lives on the Line" is an impassioned look at the changes that have swept the U.S.-Mexico border: the rising tension concerning free trade andmilitarization, the growing disparity between the affluent and the impoverished. At the same time, the book highlights the positive aspects of change, revealing challenges and opportunities not only for the people who live on the border but for all Americans.

I read 40+ pgs of this book in the bookstore alone. I just moved to Nogales, AZ in January and I have found this book to be very helpful in providing me a background of the Ambos Nogales areas. The book is very well written and keeps you interested from cover to cover. Living in the area and being able to directly relate to the book is a plus, however anyone interested in the US-Mexico Border would find this book to be a spectacular read. Enjoy!!

must also read Miriam Davidson's "Lives on the Line." Maybe I'm a bit biased since I live here in Southern Arizona twelve miles north of our border with Mexico. But Davidson writes such sweet, firsthand-experience prose about other realities I see here -- like the Mexican migrants who have, for decades, crossed the border to keep Americans fat and sassy. The risks they now are taking have become obscenely dangerous, with the US spending billions upon billions to protect-- futiley -- our southern border.Davidson's book is the first one I've read from cover-to-cover in one sitting since I read Ernest Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea." She's actually the better writer who shares the same themes. But one does not have to live near the border with Mexico to understand that our friendly, much older, south-of-the-border nation's problems are really ours.Besides, the Mexican border is now up in Minnesota -- isn't it, really? This is a must read.

Miriam Davidson's book is appropriately researched, well written, and full of personal anecdotes from her experiences in the twin borders cities of Nogales Arizona|Sonora. She explores key issues of social justice and environmental degradation in 'maquiladora' communities in Mexico.I visited Nogales USA & Mexico in 1999, and saw little evidence of the poverty or ecological troubles that Davidson skillfully brings to light in her book. Her description of the Mexican children who live in the cities' sewer tunnel systems is heart-rending; the issues of poverty, drug running, environmental degradation, poor health of residents, economic disparity between USA and Central America, corruption, gender inequality, crime, and the mixed role played by maquila businesses are all interwoven, and Davidson does a great job of illustrating this. One of the most remarkable stories in the book relates to an accomplished American woman of Mexican ancestry who has her new vehicle stolen from the streets of Tucson, AZ by members of the Nogales, Mexico police force. Her response to this injustice is both amazing and inspiring.I highly recommend not only "Lives on the Line", but the related books "Coyotes", by Ted Conover, and "Crossing Over", by Ruben Martinez.

A fascinating and thorough look at the immigration situation seen through several facets of live in Nogales, Mexico. Davidson brings her journalistic skills to bare in making meaning of a complex topic and breathing humanity into the situation.
