I have taken numerous tests over the last 30 years: PSAT, SAT, ACT, GMAT, LSAT, GRE twice and other miscellaneous tests. I can say unequivocally that the best way to raise your score on the SAT and the GRE is to memorize 500 vocabulary words. I scored average on the first GRE. The next time I took it 2 decades later, I scored in the 97th percentile in verbal. Memorizing 500 vocabulary words made the entire difference. I highly recommend studying these cards about 3 months prior to your test date. Similar word lists are freely available on the Internet and are probably just as good. But this is cheap enough to compensate for time wasted searching and formatting the word lists. As an aside, I also studied math from two different preparation books, but my math score actually dropped substantially. So be prepared for the math to be significantly harder on the test than in the workbooks.

Any of these exam preparation books would contain practice tests and various tips. What separates them is the reviews of the test subject matters. This one is excellent. Each major subject gets its own chapter. My son's weakness is in Geometry, so we go over that chapter together, and I really like how well the material is organized. If you are getting just one book for the SAT, this is the one to buy.

Ordered these for highschool-aged little brother while he was prepping for the SAT. He studied them diligently, and apparently they really helped him raise his score from the previous year. As someone who has studied 5 languages, flashcards are the way to go when memorizing vocabulary.

I bought this book for my sister. There is a lot of helpful infomration regarding the SAT. I would recommend this book if you are studying for the test.

it is great and better than the Kaplan cards..why?it has card rings, pronunciations, great definitions and examples

This book continues to be a great choice for SAT prep. It has extensive math exercises and the sentence completion explanations contain many definitions of the words users probably do not know on their own.

Thank you this is nice.

I've been an independent SAT tutor for four years, and the McGraw Hill SAT Guide is the only book I use. The book's vocab section and tear-out flashcards both highlight word roots, which is one of the more sensible approaches to learning SAT vocab. Naturally, I thought Christopher Black's boxed flashcards might follow the pattern established with his book flashcards. Uh....nope. These cards are only word/definition/sample sentence. There are no roots, and no families of words using the roots, which goes against the methodology so brilliantly used in the book. Did I mention both are by the same author? You should still by the McGraw Hill SAT Guide, but skip these cards. Instead, spend two bucks on some blank index cards and make your own WITH roots. You can even get cards in nifty neon colors!
