He is the author of the text Organization Development (4th ed., Sage Publications, 2017) and editor of Cases and Exercises in Organization Development & Change (2nd ed., Sage Publications, 2017). This text served as required reading when I took Dr. Anderson's Organizational Development course during the Spring 2013 quarter at the University of Denver. Despite being largely disappointed with the majority of required reading throughout my graduate study, this was by far the best and most helpful text. Dr. Anderson does a wonderful job of synthesizing what many OD, consulting, and organizational design experts say and compiling it into a solid text. The text combines solid theory with realistic case studies and even personal anecdotes. Instead of being a generic, monotone work, it is almost as if you can hear his voice and passion for the subject. Chapters and sections are very well-organized, making it easy to revisit previous sections. He also provides some solid insider advice and is quite honest about what works and what doesn't. The built-in case studies offer many chances to practice what you just learned. I highly recommend this text to be used in conjunction with Cases and Exercises in Organization Development & Change. Finally, Dr. Anderson does well to appeal to learners with a visual sense by including many easy to follow diagrams and charts.Perhaps my only critical advice would be to include a section at the end of the text with a graphical organizer which breaks down the different types of interventions and categorizes them by individual, group, and organization.

It's not the text book author's fault if a reader can't remember what they read. Anderson's work is a primer on organization development. If you have the slightest inclination to do any kind of organization development whether internal or external this is the book for you. I rented it as a text book for a doctoral level class on organizational theory and group behavior and I'm buying it outright for future reference use as my consulting career gains momentum. I've used it extensively for the last eight weeks and it worth every penny.

I'm visually impaired and need the larger font of a digital book. This works great for me and i have no problem with turning pages. Plus when referencing you can highlight, copy, paste and have a 90% solution to a citation. This book may not have quite all the digital feature of some other textbooks I've purchased, but works just fine with my PC, Surface and Android App. The only problem is the android app has no page numbers, only reference numbers. The PC app has page numbers at the bottom of the screen. This and tell fact it is a little dry is why it receives 4 stars.

This is a relatively brief introduction to the study of organization development (OD). What is organization development? The text notes that (page 2) ". . .an area of academic study and professional practice focused on making organizations better. . . ." This is an interdisciplinary field of study, drawing upon work from business, psychology, human resource management, and so on. The author notes further that (Page 3): "Organization development is the process of increasing organizational effectiveness, and facilitating personal and organizational change through the use of interventions driven by social and behavioral science knowledge."How does this volume try to outline the study of organization development? First, it covers basic elements of the field. Second, it provides a variety of case studies.The volume begins by discussing the nature and history and values of OD. Later subjects include the consultation process of OD practitioners, the nature of organizational change, diagnosis of organizations, intervention tactics, sustaining organizational change, and so on.A useful introduction to the subject. . . .

Very good text for laying the foundation for the future OD change consultant.

I did not care for tis book much- was a requirement for school. It was not a easy read. Boring

This digital book is the WORST. DO NOT GET IT! I thought it was my Kindle app but tried it on 3 devices. Then one of my classmates started the discusson in our class....everyone that got it in digital format had the same issues. The pages flip constantly - sometimes 30-40 pages. There are no page numbers, just locations. Save yourself the frustration. Do not get the digital Kindle version. It is bad.

Book about a cat. (Reason for picking.) I may have inadvertently missed it when I was skipping the personal sagas, shopping trips, museum escapades, and life quandaries, but somehow this cat with limited life span due to fatal kidney disease is miraculously healthy at the end with no explanation I could find. And the adopters were medical people (doctor, nurse) whom I guarantee would have pursued that question. Bizarre this made it through editing.

I’ve owned cats for 60 years. This story covers all the secret traits known to cats that non-cat people don’t get. I see so many of my past kitties in Bono

Helen has a true heart of gold. What a beautifully written book, with true compassion. Lydia planted the seed that needed to grow on it's own. Bono appreciated you from the start, you just didn't know it. Love the book and look forward to more writings. Tell Jonah he's loved, from me!

This book is not about a cat. Five or six chapters in still no cat. Just the drama of an author who it is all about, instead of the cat. Probably good, urinated a book with the cat being the focus, not me, me, me and my jetsetter, metropolitan life where I find myself and oh, yeah, there is this cat....

This book started out, in my opinion, about a selfish spoiled older woman of means "bored" by her life with a saint for a husband. Perhaps it got better, but I just couldn't finish it...

This book is warm, comforting....& very funny. I loved it!!!

Bono, The Rescue Cat was much more than a story about a rescue cat. It was a real learning experience for everyone involved with Bono. "Life lessons" was the real story here! The writer learned more about herself and her relationships because of Bono, lessons we all could learn. Good story with a happy ending (not all pet stories end happily) so I recommend this book with no reservations.

As a cat lover, of course, I loved this book. When my Lukie died in my arms of a heart attack, I said I would never have another. BUT, my husband, Tony had passed away and I was too lonesome, so from the shelter came another love, my Buddy Boy. This story you can tell was written from the heart. It was at different times funny, sad, and oh so interesting. Most enjoyable!

This is an awesome book and will be an amazing series. Just sad it's going to be a long wait between books. The first book takes some time to get into and become a cohesive story after that it's great and the next book is even better.

I am in my seventies and hope that I live long enough to finish this great series. Ten books, please Mr. Sanderson, don't take as long to finish the series as this book did to finish. I know great books take a great deal of time to write but at my age, I don't know how much time I have left to enjoy pleasures such as these novels.I am a voracious reader, mostly action, spy, counter terrorism etc. My daughter reads like I do and she reads these fantasy epics. Her son, my grandson, gave me a copy of the Way of Kings for Christmas 2012 saying it was his favorite book of all time, and he is a chip of the ole' block. He is a huge reader also.I so enjoyed that book that I couldn't wait until this second in the series came out, bought it for my Kindle the day before and it was ready to read the next day.I haven't finished it yet, but, almost. I have not been disappointed in any way except that I will soon be finished and then what? My daughter has suggested that I start on another of Mr. Sanderson's novels and I believe that is what I am going to do.So, thanks to my grandson Victor and his mom, Stephanie, I am now a fan of fantasy fiction and especially, Brandon Sanderson.

At this point, Words of Radiance has been out for a year and a half, and I suspect most of Sanderson's fans have read it. I've bumped into them at cons, book stores, signings, and, frankly, almost every other place where you might find readers. I bump into them at the most unlikely of places and find them in the people I would least have suspected of being fantasy fans. In fact, for a lot of them, this is the only fantasy that they read--indeed, to them, fantasy IS Brandon Sanderson.There are a lot of explanations for this, but the simplest one is really this: Sanderson writes some pretty awesome stuff. Broad appeal, female protagonists, good writing, high productivity, the absence of foul language and "on-screen" sex, and highly creative world building are all parts of that, but really, Sanderson has a formula that instead of being predictable focuses on storytelling fundamentals and innovative plot, character, and world-building...But enough rambling: let's get to Word of Radiance. It merits its own dose of praise.When the first book in The Stormlight Archive was released (The Way of Kings) back in 2010, I found myself waiting at a midnight release to get Sanderson's signature--and yes, I still shake my head that I did it, but I digress--he had just finished the last three books in Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. While I agreed with most readers that Sanderson's touch had actually improved the Wheel of Time, I wanted assurance that I wouldn't have to wait a generation to see the end of the next epic fantasy series I would start, of which Sanderson was at that moment signing the first installment in front of me at the table."There will be ten books," he said. "And I promise not to die on the way."All of this is just to say that after finishing #2 in the series I am more than even after the first eager to read the next. And I would read as many as Sanderson writes, be they a thousand pages or more...Words of Radiance surpasses The Way of Kings and sets a path for the series that hints at as much, or more, as it actually reveals.As Words of Radiance opens, our two heroes--Kaladin and Shallan--find themselves moving towards a purpose, having over come the obstacles that they surpassed in The Way of Kings. Kaladin is no longer a slave, but wields the power of the Knights Radiant, if secretly from all but a few of his closest soldiers of the newly formed military unit he heads in their task to protect the King. Shallan finds herself en route to the Alethkar war camp on the Shattered Plains, learning but slowly to recognize her own growing powers. And yet, neither will foresee what they must do--what they must become--if they are to survive the coming storm, as well as the treachery that awaits at every turn.Meanwhile, the mysterious Assassin continues to spread chaos across the land, killing heads of state across the continent, commanded by an unseen hand, a shadow power manipulating the nations.Sanderson has learned how to develop his characters, good and evil, and to make them hurt in a way that accrues sympathy from the reader. For example, it's hard to see Kaladin's choices, watch him pay the price, and see how he digs himself out of the results. Every character is individual, creatively rendered, and vibrantly alive. Just when I think Sanderson couldn't possibly make Roshar more real, he creates another culture, unique and colorful, and adds another layer to what is also a highly developed interplay of characters, countries, cultures, and mythologies.It's a 'wow' factor that makes Sanderson's writing--already carrying a strong story--that much more gripping and hard to put down.Words of Radiance is fantastic, and almost anthropological at points, in its scope. I can't wait to read Oathbringer (hinted for a 2017 release, which is so far away as to be almost a depressing thought), as well as anything that Sanderson manages to punch out in the intervening time between his finishing writing and the publisher's release to shelves.

I'd given up hope. I buried my self in my text books. So many horrible, horrible writers have sprung up & the editors have disappeared. Misspelled words, bad grammar abound. Characters that get easily distracted and wander off predictably and become heroes. This is the world I thought had become ours with the rise of digital books. Then I heard a rumour... first from my father-in-law whispered over the Thanksgiving chatter.."I've found a series...no listen.. a real series, a master piece." I rolled my eyes silly old man doesn't he know that art has been dead several years now. Fast forward a year later when my dentist held me hostage, hands in mouth making statements I couldn't physically respond to... "This series I'm reading, it's amazing, refreshing, and real" I roll my eyes, it's all I can do.. "I am amazed at the authors wit, his use of transitions, I'm captivated"... I grunt "no, this is real Jessica, a real author, I feel like I've found the holy grail of books"... Still I didn't listen, fast forward more wasted time, I was stuck outside another dance practice of my daughter's, half listening to the idle chat of the other moms. Facebook couldn't hold my interest and I was between classes so no mandatory reading to do. I flipped open my kindle dusted it off and searched for this holy grail.... I am happy to report that I have just now come up for air after reading the first two books back to back. I feel the need to pause, relish in my new found friends (the amazingly well developed characters of this book) and write this review with my two thumbs on this small kindle. You have to read this book! The first book was a tiny bit slow, it had to be, it was stroking the anticipation, this book however takes that anticipation and flares it into an all consuming feeling of "need to know". I need to know what's going to happen next! Forgive my grammar and spelling on this review, I'm not going to edit, I need to buy book #3 and check in on my friends. I never know what their up to next. I. Love. It.

About the Author

Stephen Ritz, founder of Green Bronx Machine, has devoted his teaching career to improving health and academic results for children in the South Bronx. Now he is partnering with organizations from Canada to Dubai and Colombia to Cairo to bring the power of a plant to children and communities everywhere. A Top 10 Finalist for the Global Teacher Prize and one of NPR’s 50 Greatest Teachers, he has presented at the White House on two separate occasions and had his classroom modeled by the U.S. Botanic Garden. I just got the book yesterday and I'm so glad I did!! The only thing more inspiring than Steve's story is to see him in person. Ritz has passion and enthusiasm that is so infectious. You can't help but like the guy. His story- and the work he does - needs to be shared with anyone who works with kids. This is a must read for educators!!!

I started knowing Stephen in helping to plan GreenSchoolSummit.org here in Las Vegas. Stephen Ritz reminds me of the small handful of teachers who stood out as particularly engaged in the individual growth and lives of their students. This is an inspiring book that goes much further than the headlines that Stephen Ritz is already well known for. The author describes his many ups and downs on the way to bringing opportunity to teenagers in the Bronx in an entertaining and gripping way. In his storytelling, he is not trying to make it look easier or worse than it actually is. In some ways the challenges that he faced were enormous. In other ways, he makes the reader see that the young people in the Bronx are not different than the rest of us. They just don't have the priviliges other people do. His many entertaining anecdotes illustrate what it means to bring change to a community.The book is also an excellent illustration of how different aspects of sustainability complement each other: Growing food locally using natural methods will protect the environment, educate the community, improve people's diets and bring money to the growers. Environmental, social and economic sustainability all in one!

Stephen's journey is a splendid adventure. It has hit me in the feels in all the right ways; making me laugh, cry, and smile on just about every page.This book is perfect for any teacher or human being who might be looking for inspiration. Stephen has accomplished so much in the toughest part of the Bronx, and he gives endless inspiration & insight into how he did it. Just finished reading The Power of a Plant! I have been following Stephen Ritz for the past year via YouTube & social media. This book is such a better picture of his story, his passion and his purpose. I would say that he has a gift connecting with young people, but in addition to that (and probably most importantly) the book shows how he repeatedly didn't give up on kids after others had. He gave them purpose and everyone needs purpose!I have seen some of Stephen Ritz's presentations and the best word I can use to describe them are "energy"! You can feel this in The Power of a Plant.Thank you Stephen Ritz for sharing your passion, purpose, hope and energy with the rest of the world!

Beyond inspirational! A must read for every educator or would be class room teacher.A unique look at the difference between teaching and educating and a demonstration of how one person can bring hope and change to those who are born to poor parents.Too many wonderful good lessons to enumerate, but do not miss this journey of hope and change. I would give it six stars.

About the Author

Fr Paul Tarazi is Professor of Old Testament at St Vladimir's Seminary, where he teaches scriptural studies in Old and New Testament and Biblical Hebrew. He also teaches at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, Massachusetts and at St. John of Damascus Institute in Balamand, Lebanon.He did Medical Studies at the Jesuit University School of Medicine, Beirut, Lebanon, and holds an M.Div., an M.Th and a Th.D all from the Theological Institute, in Bucharest, Romania.
