This volume is a good introduction to the pulp magazines of yesteryear, when people actually took the time to read in their spare time. It covers all the genres and the illustrations are marvelous - covers and interior artwork, plus photos of many of the creators of the stories found between the covers. Printed on slick paper, the colors leap out at the reader.

Great book .Lots of nice covers shown and fascinating information. Wish there were more like it. Would have liked more illustrations but what there were,are excellent.

Besides the great art within, the writing is fantastic. Lee Server always keeps it interesting and doesn't linger on a point too long. He provides a good overview of the pulps: what they are, how they formed, how they stayed alive, and how they died. He provides some bios of the major authors (whether or not they are collectable) and editors. And provides great information on the various genres.If you're interested in pulps at all, i would recommend this as a great starting point before delving into this fascinating world.

This book was a real disappointment. Possessed two other books of Cronicile, very high quality books, so I trusted. Precise that my interest is not literary but only for the cover art, then as a book on the history of the pulp it may be a good book, a eccellent book, but from the point of view of the images exclusively, for me was disappointing. The layout is so beautiful but the images are few, chosen more for the historical, literary, and not for the artistic one. Large images are also a bit 'blurry and printing is not excellent but acceptable, discreet. Not to compare with "Pulp Art" publishing Castle Books that of wonderful colors. If you are looking for a book of historical research on Pulp it is probably a very good book. If you look for a book just for the pictures this is unwrapped.

good book. it covers the early church in the first several centuries after the resurrection of Jesus. The change in the church and beliefs after Constantine accepted Christianity is very noticable. The church took on the structure of the Roman rule and created a bloated, hierarchical institution that was far removed from the common folks.

A good introduction to the early Church history, from the apolstolic period through the time of Augustine of Hippo. Lyman discusses the various conflicts and elements that arose from the earliest periods of the Church, including the Roman persecutions, the split from Judiasm, and the Arian, Donatist, Pelagian and Gnostic conflicts. She also does a fine job of touching on the evolution of the liturgy and the sacraments, including their development and Biblical basis. An easy read, and one that any person interested in Early Church History can digest as a beginner's book.

Great series from an Anglican point of view.

This provides a good history of the early church. It's amazing that the things that still vex the church as still around today.

The Episcopal church in the twentieth century took advantage of the general availability of publishing to good advantage, compiling through several auspices different collections and teaching series, the latest of which was only completed a few years ago. There have been 'unofficial' collections of teaching texts, such as the Anglican Studies Series by Morehouse press, put out in the 1980s, as well as an earlier teaching series. Pretty good book for beginners and oldbies alike. Weather you are just starting to learn the position, or are coming back after a long hiatus and need some refreshers, this book has you covered. I didn't think anything would ever replace "Jacques Plante: On Goaltending" in my goalie bag, but this book managed. With useful exercises, diet ideas, quick tips and easy to understand terminology (It won't make a beginner feel like a outsider) this book is great. It even has a section devoted to the roller hockey goaltender. The only flaw I can think of is that it is a little outdated with the equipment, but every book will have that problem eventually seeing how equipment is always changing and evolving with the game. So if you are looking for a book to pick up and get you on the road to your NHL career or just was to brush up for that beer league this summer, look no further.

I've read a few books on goaltending and this is by far the best and most authoritative, especially with the accompanying DVD to illustrate technique. I used this to work on my own game and now use it as a reference to help me with coaching, too. I have suggested this book to more people more times than I can remember and would bet I'll be suggesting it many more. Overall a very good, comprehensive, and easy to understand guide to a position that is not usually so easy to break down.

I am a beginner at the position and use this book as a guide to what I need to learn.I recommend this to all goaltenders or those interested in becoming a goalie. Good stuff.I also have "The trend quickest ways to improve your game" and "10 simple tricks the pros use" both good.

I used this book in an introductory grad-level bioinformatics course. No programming knowledge was necessary to enroll and we learned python as part of this course. This book was required, but I only used it for the first week or two of class. Really not that helpful for my needs.My main issue with the book is the general lack of editorial feel. Most chapters are topical case studies which also describe how to do a task in perl (there is a companion website which provides equivalent python scripts). Especially since we were learning Python in this course and considering that the field is moving towards object-oriented languages, I rarely needed to reference this book.There are several better introductions to genomics, so if you aren't interested in the 'how-to' of this field then I recommend passing on this book. Even if you are interested, consider other resources before this one.

Use this a a desk reference to leverage new genomics tools. Relatively well written summary - starting point. Strongly recommended

This is a useful and informative text; although I won't be using it "extensively" until next semester, I have scanned the chapters and it appears to have the right content for studying the subject thoroughly. I look forward to supplementing class lectures with the info contained in this text.

I wish they made a pocket version

I bought this book for nursing school knowing aot of people recommended it. The content is good but if you want to take advantage of the free 1 year online access DON't buy the kindle edition it comes with no access code. I bought this because we are required to have our books on our tablets but also wanted access to updated information. I was looking at buying a care plan book as well (the one we are supplied by Elsevier leaves alot to be desired). I will not buy kindle again.

A must-have for a nurse. I prefer the paperback to the phone app. Every week I use it at least once. The only complaint is that is doesn't contain all classes of drugs. Except for one medication that was listed two editions back that isn't present now, I love this book. It is designed for a nurse and quick reference.

As a nursing student, a drug book is essential. I love this book, much more than the Mosby's book that my program suggests we purchase. The information is laid out in an easy to follow fashion. The only problem I have is that (at least on the kindle version) there is a large section (about 200 pages or so) that is out of place. For example, the page labeled as 612 is listed as 554 electronically. This means that some of the drugs are not in alphabetical order which can make locating some of them difficult. Basically my book goes drugs starting with E, G, F, then H (and then the pages are back on track).

It's heavy and the size/shape of a bible - which is exactly what it has been for me. I am a nursing student and I don't dare go to a clinical without this reference! It is simple to use (just look in the index and then go straight to the page), accurate, accessable, and comprehensive. It also has great reference appendices that I have used so many times. The paper is thin but surprisingly durable. This book has taken a beating and I expect to keep buying new editions as long as I'm in the nursing field.

As always, Davis Drug Guide remains the best.Keeping up to date on all the new meds and the appendix that is so important for all nurses, while trying to keep it compact enough to keep near while on the floor. I like that it still includes the drip rates and basic medical math information along with everything else.My first copy was as a student, and I find that after trying many others this is still my favorite.

I love this book, however I do think you could get away with using the Nursing Central website (it uses the Davis's Drug Guide & has everything the book has). I started to do that when I was pressed for time when I was making my drug cards for clinical. I like physical copies of books, which is why I purchased this, but I do think you could use the other website to get all your information. Plus, you may not always have the internet to rely on!

If you're a nursing student and having to write out drug cards for school, this is the book to use! It gives you patient teaching info, nursing considerations, even evaluations. Plus it comes with a code for only usage. Totally worth the price.

I see this book as fulfilling two different purposes. First, if you want to double-check the medicine you're being prescribed. Second, for use in a world without hospitals and medical personnel when you may be forced to self medicate. In both cases its a potential life saver.
