Just be warned once you buy your child one of these books, you will eventually have to get the whole set!Not sure what it is about these books, but my daughter is obsessed. I work in education, so I can say that it's very common. Once one of my students reads one book, they cannot wait to read the rest of the series!These are simple easy books with simple graphics. My daughter is a 2nd grader who reads at about a 5-6 level, and she absolutely loves these books. She reads them over and over, and it takes her about 2 minutes to read one full book.Each of these books has a subliminal life lesson as well. They focus on feelings, without making feelings an awkward subject. Highly recommend them, even if your child is an advanced reader...they will still love these.I initally felt like they were a waste of money because they're so easy for my daugter to read, but after I saw how much she genuinely loves them, they were worth every penny.She especially loves reading them to her little cousins and friends. They have a lot of expression (yelling, excited, ALL CAP WORDS, sighing, sadness, etc.) So they help my daughter practice her expressional reading where she reads without trying to speed read or sounding like a monotone robot! :)

Mo Willems does a great job addressing children's feelings, relationships and dilemmas from their perspective. (In this case, Piggy's invitation to a party. What about Gerald?) These are acknowledged and validated while Gerald and Piggy sort things out and come to a satisfactory solution. Enables discussions on many age appropriate levels. The graphics and/or story appeals to my grandchildren aged 18 months to 5 years. My 11 year old granddaughter enjoys reading them to siblings and cousins. However, our discussions on a more nuanced and insightful level.

I absolutely adore Mo Willems' books. I guess you could say I adore Mo Willems. Tell him not to worry about me as I am an elderly lady who has no evil intentions. This book is hilarious. Children and old folks love it. It tickles me to death to read this book to little children. I have read it to so many little ones and it never gets old. This book is one of many in the series. The stories, characters and illustrations are very sweet and very considerate of the needs of beginning readers. My kindergarten granddaughter loves them and is building a beginning reader library that she loves to read and reread, building her fluency and acquisition of high frequency words. The illustrations are highly supportive of predicting unfamiliar words.

My 5 yo can read the whole thing, it's my favorite thing to watch. I use the line "we must be ready!" All the time now when we have to get ready for something.

My 6 year old loves this series! This book is adorable and fun, we made a project of elephant from this book and had fun reading and creating. It’s a great book to build reading confidence in newer readers! Highly recommend the whole series.

This book is outdated. Amazon says it was published on July 18, 2017 - but the real publication date is 2010. 7 years in IT is a loooong time.I need current knowledge - not 2010 knowledge.Hopefully the refund mechanism for kindle books works. Time will show!

Extremely well written book for kids. My kids are following the steps on their own after help with first two chapters to setup. Recommend looking at comments in other reviews for answers to questions if you are stuck on an error. Lots of helpful q&a and reviews. They helped us get unstuck.Note: My 9 yr old is very advanced and is used to programming in Scratch as well as general troubleshooting of computers/software/mechanics. I would say this is appropriate for anyone 9 and older with a little parent help, and 12 and older without help.This requires you purchase Minecraft from the Mohjang website for your child (Do not purchase the Windows 10 version of Minecraft since that cannot be used for modding at this time).

I teach programming to kids. Although this book is advertised as a beginner book for kids with no programming experience, I think it works better as an advanced book after they have learned some basic Python programming from a book like No Starch Press’ Python For Kids by Jason Briggs. I am really impressed by the quantity of material that this book covers, though. Lots of mods that you can write using Python that I would never even think of. It is unlikely that anybody would ever do all of the projects in this book. Better to pick and choose the more interesting ones.It’s true as other reviewers have said that setting up the programming environment is tricky. I found that the best and easiest is to install PyCharm Edu and the raspberryjam mod for Minecraft Forge. Then you don’t need to run the Spigot Minecraft server. You do development inside the mcpipy directory in your .minecraft directory, which avoids the need to install the out-of date py3minepi package (Python 3 Minecraft pi edition API)

Many reviews on this book say that it is outdated and doesn't work with Minecraft. It is true that the setup instructions are outdated, in that they refer to old, unsupported versions of software, and that the author's own distribution of the software is old. However, all the programming exercises work fine if you just ignore the setup instructions and download the newest versions of needed software yourself from the official sources (which is what I would recommend anyway): Java, Python, py3minepi, Minecraft, Spigot server, and the RaspberryJuice plugin for Spigot server. The setup depends on having a client component (py3minepi) loaded into Python that talks to a server API component (RaspberryJuice) in Spigot server. If none of that made sense to you, this book probably isn't for you.I'm a professional software developer with a 7-year-old son who said he wanted to try coding. While the content is clear and easy to understand, I still think he's too young for this book. He quickly lost interest and kept pointing out how he could accomplish the same things using command blocks etc. inside Minecraft.At the time of writing this, Minecraft 1.12 was the latest version, and what I used. I used a Windows PC.

I like the book, so far. My only complaint is with the Kindle formatting of the python code on an iPad. The code looks fine on my Kindle Paperwhite, but when I try to read the code on my iPad (where I can view it much larger) the python code is sometimes unreadable. For instance, in the very first examples of using python the code appears to read ">>> 2 2+" instead of ">>> 2 + 2". Other examples are even more difficult. Changing the font didn't seem to help.Other than that, I was able to install all the Mac Tools and get everything working on the first try. There are complaints here about the included Spigot Minecraft server not being compatible with the latest Minecraft release, but there's no way that the author can keep up with the release schedule of Mojang. Simply choose to run the Minecraft version (in the Minecraft Launcher) that matches the latest Spigot server that you are running.

I found out why my server was not connecting to the game. If you followed all directions from the book and you find that Minecraft Multiplayer says that it "can not connect to server" try the following. (It might solve your problem. It did for me.)Step 1: Open MinecraftStep 2: Change your Profile (this is in the bottom left corner of the screen). Click on Edit Profile.Step 3: Change Profile Name to "Spigot 1.9.2" or "Spigot - Python 1.9.2" (You decide what name you want, I always put the game version in the name. I moved from the Midwest to NYC in 1973, on the cusp of all the changes that Moss writes about. I've always loved energy and diversity of the city although didn't like the grime and crime of the past. I've witnessed the gentrification in my neighborhood and always felt concerned that so many poorer people were being forced from our community. As a social worker married to a teacher we would be priced out of our building neighborhood if we were not a in a rent stabilized apartment. The rent for non-stabilized apartments in our building are going for $10,000/month rent! How many people can really afford that? What Moss does so clearly, with an impressive amount of research, is to explain how these changes have happened all through the city. I did not know of all of the political and corporate agreements and regulations which created this and reading this made me angry. Fortunately he concludes with directions and actions people can take. At times it was painful to read, but I couldn't put it down.

Jeremiah Moss chronicles my last 10 years of misery living in NYC. A neatly packaged history memoir about NY and urban planning.I wish I had this book back then to comfort me and assure me that I wasn't going crazy, that these things were really happening before my eyes. I had no one to relate to before I left. No one that understood the magnitude of the situation. I was one of the last to leave. I found this book to be extremely informative. It helped me bring closure to a very depressing time in my life and gave me verification that leaving NYC was one of the best things I did for myself in years. The legend , the memories, the experiences will be with me for life but the NYC that I knew 1969 - 2015 is dead and gone in my lifetime. The politicians and real estate people got their wish.Get out while you can. Believe it or not there is life beyond NY City !

Modern day astronomers can summon up a pretty remarkable picture of what the universe looked like billions of years ago. They have a much harder time of depicting it now. Most of us have a very vivid recollection of where we grew up and perhaps don't take as much time to carefully assess where we are now, although some level of complaints are pretty universal. This is a truly painful and thoughtful book about New York. I am amazed that I find it so persuasive even though my political and social views are in many ways different and sometimes opposed from that of the author. As a life long conservative, and even a real estate attorney for a time, I still cherish many of the diverse traits and places of "The City" that Moss chronicles as being lost or threatened and am just as angry about the lack of respect and support for immigrants, working class people and those who march to a different drummer.I grew up in Brooklyn and Manhattan in the mid 40s to the early 60s, and have continued to visit it regularly since. We weren't poor, but our circumstances were modest. So I am aware of even more that has been lost before Moss arrived. I too loathe the mediocrity and mendacity of chain stores, cold and arrogant architecture, selfish and supercilious people, kickbacks and eminent domain overreach, and the excesses of redevelopment and gentrification that are destroying the character and grittiness of a place that rewarded the hard work and hustle of people who struggle to make ends meet.Moss paints all of the New York mayors from Koch on as mostly evil accomplices of greedy and barbarian real estate developers. He meticulously recounts the destruction of the character of numerous colorful and distinctive neighborhoods and the systematic efforts to evict poor people and small businesses and banish them to the outer reaches of the city and beyond.But it is a mystery, who are buying all of these luxury condos and apartments? The implication is that wealthy people are moving in in droves and are happy to accept the sterile high rises and mass market and near luxury trinkets of generic city neighborhoods built on the ruins of the older and distinctive quarters that are being decimated. That just doesn't fully compute! Moss doesn't answer those questions. But he rightfully laments the lack of civility, loss of appreciation for people who are different from you, and the reluctance to leave a space for different subcultures and artists.It is not all doom and gloom. The author seeks out and appreciates what hasn't been lost and makes an eloquent plea to fight back against the banal and boorish commercial and civil behavior that has and is destroying the very fabric of city life. Maybe there is some common ground for conservatives and liberals when they truly care about people more than labels and slogans.

This book is a mind opener. While those of us who have lived in New York for countless generations have been aware that the city changes over time, and seldom overall for the better, we disconnected the earlier patterns of urban destruction from the accelerated pace that we've seen in the past generation. But Moss has traced the current trend of massive destruction of so much of the physicality of the city to long term goals dating back at least a century. The only difference is that the pace in recent years has been accelerated.One hopes that this book is widely read, and shakes people up to motivate them to do something collectively to stop the furtherance of the losses that are making New York lifeless and devoid of the creative energy that made this city vital. Spread the word, and make this book the focus of discussions of what is to come in the next few years, and afterwards. Collectively, we can make a difference.

The aptly named author has delivered forth a prophetic bombshell for the ages. His passion, his keen eye, his turn of phrase, are unquestionable. As a native New Yorker and great lover of this quintessential modern city, I approached this book with high hopes, but must admit I found the first half to be tough going at times as the author's justifiable anguish at what's being done to the city in the name of progress over the last few decades seemed to render him virtually incoherent, as if the pages themselves could not contain his inchoate rage. But somewhere around halfway through, probably starting with the chapter on the High Line, Mr. Moss hits his stride and delivers a series of sterling chapters on the decline and fall of so many wonderful neighborhoods in this endangered metropolis. So, overall, well worth a read and an important contribution to the debate on the fate and the future of New York.

An excellent complement to Todorov's ideas on the Fantastic. Easily written and therefore easily read, this book contains a flow of ideas to work with the fantastic and give it its denied place amongst critical literature.

It's a really good read for those seeking to understand fantastic literature at an academic level. It is very well written.

Too complex and subjective as all psychoanalytical works go, but insightful and certainly one of a kind. Had a hard time to read it through, and the term FANTASY is too broadly understood, but once again - a unique perspective of analysis for the genre anyway.

This is one of my favorite theory books, not too heavy handed and some really thoughtful work. I just loved it, espically Dr. Jackson's ideas about the Faust and Frankenstien legands. Anyone who's looking for something to start with regarding the fantasy and horror genres should really pick this one up. It's really great!

This is a new romantic suspense series from Elana Johnson. Cassie is running from her step-brothers' father who for now is in prison for abusive behavior. She's working in a bakery and then as an interim culinary professor. She has a class for special needs and somehow Jon enrolls even though he isn't handicapped. They have a spark but can't act on it in public since he's her student and she wants a permanent position. They start a secret relationship. Eventually, Jon finds out that Cassie needs a safer place to stay so he offers her one of his family cabins. The step-father ends up getting out of prison and does come looking for her and his sons. Will Jon be able to save her in time and still not get her fired? I like the new series which is a little different from the previous writing that Elana Johnson has done. I received an advanced copy but have since purchased my own book. I am leaving my honest review.

The story line was interesting & it kept my interest throughout the book. A clean read about a relationship they had to hide. There were a lot of twists & turns which left me wishing the story was longer so I could watch how everything unfolded. There is no cliff hanger at the end but just wished for it to be longer. I guess that says a lot about the book.

Even though most people say they won’t read a book if it has been given five stars, I just can’t help myself. I really really liked this book! I have gone off on reading romances lately but this story had enough mystery in it, to keep me wanting to read it, till the last page. I wanted to find out what happened.Secrets are never a good thing to have or are they? Some things are good to keep secret if it is a good surprise right? To top it off, it’s kind of fun but Cassie has two secrets. One secret is a matter of safety and the other one well she isn’t sure about it.Cassie and her two half-brothers are on the run but what or who are they running from?I love this author and along with the title on the front of the book, is the word forbidden, yeah that made me think this could be good! I really like how the author kept the characters fun, fresh, and just a bit mysterious! In addition, I learned something new. I love learning, new to me, things.Call me old-fashioned but I really dislike when they started putting people on the covers of books. Most of the time it turns me off reading them.I read this book off kindle unlimited.

Dreams of being a chef, was gone to keep their existence unknown from their father. With teaching and given these special classes she loved doing.Class began with the exception that Jon wasn’t a special need person. Though insisting he had to take the class. Why so Marcy would go out with him. Focusing now to Cassie. Wanting her number and to meet. He was trouble for Cassie, instruction were clear of who could be in the class. A thought he could be her assistant, and stay in the class. Another problem the father of the twins got out on parole, not to leave the city for six months. With secret dates with Jon, and being with the twins filled her dates. Things turned upside down after meeting Jon. What would the next few months bring them. She leaves their town and heads to Forbidden Lake where she works in a bakery and also as a culinary instructor hoping for a full time position. She gets a new student in her class for disabled student and he is anything but disabled. Jon is one handsome man looking to learn how to cook so he can impress another woman so she will date him but one look at Cassie and he forgets the other woman. Things are going well until her violent step father gets releases from prison and she knows he is coming for his sons. Can Jon and Cassie protect the boys from the danger headed their way?Received from the author and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.

This is a new type of book from Elana Johnson, and I would say she has hit the mark, this is a story about a woman who is hiding her twin brothers from an abusive man who was going to get out of prison. She teaches cooking at the local college and one class she has a student who she finds herself attracted to. This is against the rules. So add these together and it makes for one interesting story!! I love that this author writes interesting and suspenseful and still with out swearing or sexual content. It is not missed and you can still enjoy the book, I appreciate that while this is part of series she does not leave cliff hangers. You will want to read the next book as Elana is awesome, but she does not demand it!! Keep your eye on this lady!!!

...only thing really wrong with the story is, it was to short. Maybe a little more about Cassie and the twins mom. Why she died. Where was or what happened to Cassie’s dad? Not that it mattered to the actual story line, but would bring something more to the story. Some extra background. Why was Goliath barking at something in the dark? Might have been a place to bring in some intriguing scary moment.But really, the story was a fun read with a HEA. I just wanted to read more...Can’t wait for the next book.Love this author, I never have to worry that something is going to come before my eyes that shouldn't.And I love that she is branching out to romantic suspense.Now, if she would stretch them out to over 200 pages :)
